Carbon Neutral Policy

Over the past year, The Courier Company has worked on several schemes to cut it’s carbon emissions. Amongst the measures we have taken are the conversion of our petrol vehicles to run on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) which emit practically zero CO emissions. Following trials with the EcoMix system, www.ecomix.co.uk, we converted three of our diesel vehicles to run on a combination of Bio-diesel and LPG. This has improved our fuel economy on these vehicles by over 20% and reduced our emissions considerably, well beyond Euro III standards. The balance of the fleet will be converted over the next four months.  Our current development is the installation of photo-voltaic panels to produce the electricity needs of the Milton Keynes office, any excess requirements will be sourced from eco-friendly suppliers. The company actively practices an aggressive re-cycling policy.
 
Obviously, our biggest carbon emissions come from our freight and courier activities and for this part of our footprint, we have chosen to work with Carbon-Clear, www.carbon-clear.com to offset our emissions. Carbon–Clear work on several projects around the world that not only offset carbon emissions but also increase the efficiency of carbon producing processes. These include projects such as efficient brick kilns in Nicaragua and an LPG cook stove project in Sudan.
 
As a company we elected to offset all our emissions for 2007 and we are pleased to announce that through our projects and our offsetting activities, The Courier Company achieved Carbon Neutrality status at the beginning of this year. Throughout 2007, the company will work towards reducing more of it’s direct footprint until we only need to offset the emissions for operations beyond our control.
